Understanding Chin Augmentation

Understanding Chin Augmentation Chin augmentation uses an implant to alter the underlying structure of the face, proving better balance to the facial features. Common reasons patients elect to have this procedure are to:

  • Improve the contour of the jaw line
  • Proportion the face in regards to your nose, forehead, and chin
  • Fix a “weak” chin

I think this is for me

Chin augmentation surgery is very personal. You should take your time considering if the procedure is the right way for you to achieve your body goals. But, you don’t have to do it alone. Dr. Ridha is a double board-certified plastic surgeon with many accomplished years of experience, who also graduated valedictorian from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine (Cabrini) program in Manhattan. He has the knowledge, practical experience, and reliable bedside manner to guide you through your decision-making process to a satisfied outcome.

What can I expect?

You will go into surgery with a detailed plan created by yourself and Dr. Ridha. Surgeries are unique to every patient, but most include the following steps.

Chin augmentation surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means you need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery. Also, someone must be with you for at least the first night following surgery.

The procedure is performed while you are sedated or under general anesthesia. Depending on your unique procedure, incisions occur in one of two places: inside your mouth, along the crease that joins your lower lip and gums, or an incision just beneath the chin.

By gently stretching this tissue, Dr. Ridha creates a space where an implant can be inserted. This implant, made of synthetic material that feels much like natural tissue normally found in the chin, is available in a wide variety of sizes and shapes.

Chin incisions are typically closed with removable and absorbable sutures. Surgical incisions must not be subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during healing. During recovery, you may have a compressive dressing over your chin. Dr. Ridha provides easy-to-follow instructions to care for yourself after surgery, which include a follow-up visit.

While the initial outcome of plastic surgery with facial implants is noticeable almost immediately, it will be obscured by visible swelling. It may take several months for swelling to fully dissipate. Lifelong sun protection helps to maintain your rejuvenated appearance.
