You will go into surgery with a detailed plan created by yourself and Dr. Ridha. Surgeries are unique to every patient, but most include the following steps.
Eyelid surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means you need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery. Also, someone must be with you for at least the first night following surgery. The procedure is performed while you are sedated or under general anesthesia.
Depending on your unique procedure, incisions occur in one of three places: in the crease of the upper eyelid (to treat droopy conditions of the upper eyelid) or below the lower lash line or inside of the lower eyelid (to treat conditions of the lower eyelid). Incision lines are designed to conceal scars within the natural structures of the eyelid region. During the procedure, fat deposits may be repositioned and removed, muscles and tissue may be tightened, and excess skin may be removed.
Eyelid incisions are typically closed with removable and absorbable sutures, skin adhesives, and surgical tape. Surgical incisions must not be subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during healing. During recovery, you may have your eyes loosely covered with gauze, and you may need to apply lubricating ointment and cold compresses. Dr. Ridha provides easy-to-follow instructions to care for yourself after surgery, which include a follow-up visit.
The full results of your eyelid surgery appear within several weeks, but it may take up to a year for incision lines to fully refine. While eyelid surgery is expected to correct certain conditions permanently, you will continue to age naturally. Lifelong sun protection helps to maintain your rejuvenated appearance.
