You will go into surgery with a detailed plan created by yourself and Dr. Ridha. Surgeries are unique to every patient, but most include the following steps.
Breast revision surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means you need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery. Also, someone must be with you for at least the first night following surgery.
The breast implant revision procedure is performed while you are sedated or under general anesthesia. An incision is usually made at the site of the original surgical incision. The old implant is removed, scar tissue is removed if indicated, and then, a silicone or saline implant is inserted under the breast tissue or pectoral muscle. Internal incisions are closed with layered sutures, and ones close to the skin are closed with sutures, skin adhesive or surgical tape.
Recovery commonly takes 24 to 48 hours, which is followed by a reduced-activity period of a few days. Surgical incisions must not be subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during healing. Most patients experience soreness and swelling for a few weeks, which is normal. Soon after, swelling will subside and incision marks will fade.
Your breast revision surgery should have long-lasting results. However, breast implants do not last forever. Over time, your breasts can change due to aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal factors, and gravity. If, after many years, you become dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts, you may choose to undergo a breast lift or implant exchange to restore a more-youthful contour. Periodic visits to Dr. Ridha will ensure any changes in your breasts are detected early and appropriate actions can be taken.
