Understanding Breast Lift with Augmentation (Mastopexy Augmentation)
Breast lift with augmentation surgery is for patients who want to improve both the volume and position of their current breast tissue. Common reasons patients elect to have this procedure are to:
- Gain a fuller profile
- Create breast symmetry and body balance
- Increase breast volume due to loss during pregnancy or nursing
- Lift sagging breast tissue

What can I expect?
You will go into surgery with a detailed plan created by yourself and Dr. Ridha. Surgeries are unique to every patient, but most include the following steps.
Breast lift with augmentation surgery is usually performed on an outpatient basis, which means you need to arrange for someone to drive you to and from surgery. Also, someone must be with you for at least the first night following surgery.
The procedure is performed while you are sedated or under general anesthesia. An incision is made in one of three locations: around the areola; around the areola and vertically down to the breast crease; or around the areola, vertically down to the breast crease, and horizontally along the crease. Then, the nipple can be repositioned and underlying breast tissue can be reduced, lifted, and shaped. Occasionally, the nipple and areola may need to be removed and transplanted to a higher position on the breast. Then, a silicone or saline implant is inserted under the breast tissue or pectoral muscle. Internal incisions are closed with layered sutures, and ones close to the skin are closed with sutures, skin adhesive or surgical tape.
Recovery commonly takes 24 to 48 hours, which is followed by a reduced-activity period of a few days. Surgical incisions must not be subjected to excessive force, abrasion, or motion during healing. Most patients experience soreness and swelling for a few weeks, which is normal. Soon after, swelling will subside and incision marks will fade.
Your breast lift with augmentation surgery should have long-lasting results. However, breast implants do not last forever. Over time, your breasts can change due to aging, weight fluctuations, hormonal factors, and gravity. If, after many years, you become dissatisfied with the appearance of your breasts, you may choose to undergo a breast lift or implant exchange to restore a more-youthful contour. Periodic visits to Dr. Ridha will ensure any changes in your breasts are detected early and appropriate actions can be taken.
